About the Role:

Gartner is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer with expertise in large-scale systems to join our organization. In this role, you will lead an Agile Engineering team which is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining applications that facilitate C-level conferences, while working in closely collaboration with a matrixed global team primarily located in the United States. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned IT professional with 7-8 years of experience in leading enterprise software delivery projects. They should possess strong qualitative and quantitative problem-solving abilities, along with a high degree of ownership and accountability. This role offers the opportunity to gain comprehensive knowledge of our conference technology platform and to play a pivotal role in establishing and nurturing a high-performing team in India.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with Conference and broader IT team members to design and develop technical solutions that align with business objectives, ensuring functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for product and system enhancements to improve tool appeal, streamline processes, and enhance overall functionality and performance.
  • Lead the development of maintenance and enhancement work items, focusing on performance tuning, testing, refactoring, usability, and automation.
  • Monitor and maintain production systems to guarantee high availability and optimal performance.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers, fostering growth and development within the team.

What You Will Need:

  • BS in Computer Science, related fields, or equivalent IT experience. 7+ years of experience in software development. 2+ years of experience leading teams.
  • Leadership and ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience relentlessly pursuing and maintaining high quality while delivering on tight schedules.
  • Track record of balancing management and delivery of problems, incidents, technical debt and product roadmap with awareness of target results/outcomes.
  • Well-developed strategy for driving continuous improvement within teams and beyond; Using both qualitative and quantitative measures to understand problems and communicate impact of experiments.
  • Strong Knowledge of agile methodologies and practices
  • Proficiency in Object-Oriented Programming using Java, Ruby or .NET.
  • Strong Knowledge of JavaScript, React, Relational DB and RESTful APIs.  
  • Technical leadership to own operational support of Business-Critical apps.
  • Experience with AWS, DevOps and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience in observability and test-driven development/SDET practices.

  • An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal and prioritization skills.
  • Proactive and capable of working independently with a distributed team (spread across US and India) in a hybrid environment.
  • Possess an ownership mindset, able to identify, communicate, and act on issues and initiatives.
  • Skilled in working on parallel initiatives in an organized and timely manner.
